Story Time

This evening I was trying to do some research on a post I've been trying to compile on packaging and how at times I feel like a little kid, because I love the box something comes in more than what the actual gift is.

I started my search with one of my favorite boxes that I would love to have a couple of to use as accessories in my living room. Oh course it would be in one of my favorite colors: ORANGE, which could only mean one thing....HERMES.

Ok so maybe those are a bit too many, but you get the idea.

In my search for images I came upon the work of Sara Story. It was love at first sight. In searching her portfolio I found heaven.

Here is Sara from her Domino layout. Love the pops of orange in her fabric choices.

Looking further I discovered that Hermes is one of Sara's favorite places. She choose to show this in quite the subtle way :)

Her love for Hermes doesn't end there it continues in this fabulous sitting area as well. I love the piece of pop art with the ORANGE sign right in the middle, but let's face it I'm sure we can DIY and save some money there.

In this bedroom she used the color of the Hermes box as her inspiration and picked out what some would think is a busy pattern, but she shows a great example of how if picked correctly a strong color and a strong pattern can work together and still have the room be elegant and surprisingly serene and refreshing.

Of course she can't help herself and in the opposite side of the bedroom we are met with boxes galore.

I'm also a big fan of glossy black and love that there are touches of it as well in this room. It helps to add a bit of glam to the room and really works well with the oranges and creams in the room.

Now how do we think Ms. Story gets all those boxes. Did she make all of those purchases or some who get the empty boxes for free!

I hope you all enjoyed Story time. Now I have to continue my research for my other post on boxes. Any gift boxes that you have that you love to display in your home? Are you a sucker for packaging as well?

Pottery Barn was selling an orange lacquered wooden box that looked SCARY like the H boxes - just as cute but more durable storage. there aren't any on the website now but perhaps you could find it at an outlet or on ebay?

Ooooh, that's a toughie! I'm a sucker for packaging as well...I don't know if there's really anything close to the iconic luxury that is Hermes orange or Tiffany blue...but there's something to be said for the simple, practicality of Bloomingdale's Brown Bags.

I am a sucker for packaging. That post made me want to wallpaper my bedroom. I am going to assume she got some of those boxes on the side so I don't fall over from jealousy, haha.

BTW- I picked you blog as one of the ones I "Luv" for my post today. You were the first blogger that I really connected with and I am so happy to read your blogs every day!

I've always loved orange - especially clothing, but the color is terrible on me. But I do believe pretty orange boxes match everyone and everything :)

FC,
Glad you share my love for Hermes. I really just want to go into the store and ask to pay for boxes! I'm sure the tiffany blue looks great in your room. I love all the paint colors you picked for your home and I think Tiffany blue goes great in your home.

SW and Kwana,
Totally would not pass up a free bag, but loving the orange shade in the packaging.

Debra,
Lucky lady. I've wanted a scarf from Hermes since I read about the editor in the Devils Wears Prada using them as her signature. You must take out the box and display!

Lauren,
She is very me. Maybe that's why I love her so much. We are so awesome! :) I would just settle for two or 3 in the living room. Great way to hide clutter.

Linds,
I know those Plantation boxes are AMAZING! How much are those babies?

Cherry,
Hat boxes are little works of art as well. I use to work in a shop that had them all throughout the store for display only. They vintage ones from stores like Bonwit Teller. I had to constantly tell people no they are not for sale!

Kwana,
Can't wait to read whatever you write. Do you have any sample chapters? I love love love to read.

Kate,
You just made my day. I've been meaning to make a trip out to the PB outlet. I will be on the lookout for them.

Rachel,

I'm terribly upset about Domino. It was always my dream job out of college to work there. I remember hearing rumors that they might close, but I never thought it would happen. So sad.

MLHP,
I had totally forgotten about Bloomingdales. That is such a classic design that will be in style always. I also love the way Kate Spade boxes look. I'm trying to get my hand on some KS shopping bags to use as some photo mats for art work going up in my bedroom.

M,
I know I can't imagine that she actually bought so many things that she needed all those boxes. So not far. Thanks for picking me. So sweet. I'm so happy that we found each other as well. I love this blog world of ours.

Domestic,
Thanks for posting your post. I just went on and took a peek. So amazing. Love it.

Megan,
You are a girl that totally gets it. While Hermes things are nice and I wouldn't turn any down. I just love the crisp orange with the brown ribbon and little bits of white. It's perfect. I will never tire of orange.

Courtney,
I can't imagine something not looking great on you! But I agree orange is a bit hard to wear. I can only wear it if it is a burnt type orange. I do love pops of it in my decorating though.

The Plantation boxes are about $300.

Tiffany boxes remind me of being a teenager, when every girl had a "Return to Tiffany" necklace or bracelet. I keep the felt bags, but pitch the boxes.

Now, the Hermes box definitely gets me excited, but I would never put mine on display. I only have a few and they are in the closet, protecting my scarves.
