So as you all know I've been having a bit of difficult time adjusting to being at home 24/7. I've found myself getting a bit of cabin fever and the weather wasn't been helping.
While I try and maintain a normal work schedule at home and get things done from 9 to 5 it's still been an adjustment. The end of this work week has been better and I've come up with some plans to entertain myself and get myself out of the house during the week.
Since everyone in my family knows that I've been getting a bit bored I now have them all checking up on me throughout the day. It's sweet and every morning I'm met with a phone call from my Dad just wanting to say, Good Morning and then me and my mom meet up for some afternoon tea and watch a bit of Oprah.
My sisters call or email me throughout the day and last weekend we even tried to go and take part in some arts and crafts.
I'm sure everyone has some sort of Plaster Fun Time type place in their town. You go and pick out a piece and then you get to paint it and have it glossed and then home with you it goes. They normally have cheesy items to paint: butterflies, super hero's for the boys or just plain letters. Well a new place opened up in town so last weekend me, my mom and my sister decided to go check it out.
Typical plaster fun time project:
Well all did not go as planned. When we arrived a children's party was beginning and even though there were more empty tables and the shop didn't say it was closed for a party we got a very cold reception from the shop owner who then in so many words told us to leave! Not very nice.
Anyway end of the story is that I was never able to go and do a little painting and have a little fun.
Later on in the week I was busy searching through Apartment Therapy and saw this really cool version of a little painting D-I-Y for adults! Taking plaster fun time to a new level this project just requires a trip to your local thrift shops for some china pieces or even a dollar store has a section for dinnerware and then off to the art store for some paint.
Here is the before:
Here is the after:
You could make a whole new set of dishes if you like. I love this project and I'm going to search for supplies this weekend and try it out myself.
Images and instructions are available here!
So fellow bloggers what other ideas can you give me for entertaining myself? I've already started reading, "Eat, Pray, Love" and I'm on the look-out for some volunteer work, along with blogging and finishing up my home for portfolio pictures and of course you guys didn't forget my mystery project!
But I could always use more suggestions. For everyone that works from home and has their own business what do you do with your time? What if you have no current clients at the moment? How do you fill your days?
Stay Tuned: Monday I'll be posting a fun little interview I did with a blogger we all know and love. I'll give you a hint... She has sister that also has a very popular blog. Oh and ah. You'll all find out on Monday.
Glad you had fun! I am doing more projects myself, and including the kids.
ReplyDeleteWow I simply adore the new cup saucer and dish you made! I definitely am going to check out that source...it looks like it may have been difficult to do though?
ReplyDeleteI found that the best classes at the gym were during the day..like bellydancing and cardio pole dancing(they're all the rage in LA...)
ReplyDeleteWe have a place that you can glaze ceramics called the mad potter. They have more adult things like cookie jars, pitchers, vases, etc. they serve wine and beer... a good place for a date!
ReplyDeleteI love painting ceramics. Too bad that store owner was so nasty. She deserved to lose a customer.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of painting pieces from the thrift. May have go give that a try.
I loved "Eat Pray Love" - it inspired me. Love the painted plates idea.
ReplyDeleteLove that project!

Hey, just catching up on your blog - hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time, build your day - work from a calendar booking time to work, time to play and time for completion. Organizing your life so that when you have clients - you are ready to work. Limit time on the phone.
