Summer Reading

Oh I wish I could live in a Kate Spade colored world.

What do you have on deck to read this summer?

I just finished Julie and Julia and was totally inspired to take on a project of my own. So this summer I am going to try and master sewing! Anyone know of any good how-to books?

First things first, I must find the sewing machine that is somewhere in the basement.

Wish me luck and don’t worry I’m going to make my battle against the sewing machine a weekly feature.

  1. Looks like it is a theme this summer. I, too, am honing the sewing skills with interior decorating projects.

and I concur, I would love to live in Kate Spades world! Just carrying her totes and wearing the shoes inspire me a little to be this preppy glamazon.

  5. Good luck on your summer project. I know you can master it! I have the old Readers Digest Guide to Sewing and have used it for years since fashion school. I hear the old book may be netter than the new. http://www.amazon.com/Readers-Digest-Complete-Guide-Sewing/dp/0895770261

I still refer to it when I do sew which is rarely.

  9. I took a beginners sewing class (just (4) two hour classes) and it made the biggest difference. I felt that I learned enough to start larger projects on my own.

I LOVE to read. Hope to do a book review soon of what's on my summer list.

  12. My recommendation is for any of the Singer sewing books. They have great color photos. I can also recommend a sewing related website, www.patternreview.com. There are reviews of sewing machines, patterns, books, notions, online classes & discussion forums.

  13. Oh, I do too! I need to find a book quite badly--I read interior design books and glossies all the time and always tell myself that I don't have time to read a book on another topic. I actually have Eat, Pray Love sitting on my bedside table--think i have read one page:)

  14. I'm really having trouble finishing Julie & Julia - the author is so whiny! I'm surprised by how many posters like it...

I love projects though, and I'm glad it inspired you! I always break out my sewing machine during summer break and work on curtains, pillows, and maybe even a dress or two. Have fun!

  17. Love that post! Kate spade is so great is she not? I prefer Coach bags though, bags that cost money, I want the logo splashed all over it, that makes me happy!!

  19. Learning to sew is on my list of things to do... I don't think it'll happen this summer though. Glad you mentioned that book. I'm almost done with The Last Lecture. It's a good one to get you on the right track.
