Sweet Dreams: What’s your bed style?

I think that seeing a person’s bed is a great starting point when one is trying to pin their design style.

Not only do you get to see how many pillows they use and whether or not they make their bed every morning, but you get to see how they dress their nest so to speak.

Are they going for a minimal and modern look where the look is all about clean lines, no fuss. Basic bedding, two pillows, duvet and that is all:

Or does their bed belong in an Anthropologie catalog and give off a Bohemian Charm where it is a collective look attained with the use of textures and patterns. :

Perhaps their bedroom is a girly oasis full of lace, sparkle and glam. A pretty and inviting space full of pillows, comforter and bed skirt along with a contrasting throw:

Last, but certainly not least is a mix of hotel chic and luxury. This is a bed that is dressed with the finest linens in shades of white, layers of comfort, pop of pattern in toss pillows and a jaw –dropping headboard:

I would say my bed is a mix of the last two images. I tend to like the girly, but hubby likes hotel chic so we have a marriage of the two and start every morning by making the bed together! I can’t leave my house with my bed un-made!

How do you dress your bed? Do you make your bed or leave it as is?

  1. Dress it up! I'm from the south, a made pretty bed is very important! Monogrammed pillows, Euro Shams at the back, the whole nine yards. Bedding is one of my favorite parts of decor!

  2. I LOVE the first bedroom. I recognized it right away - it's a Brooklyn townhouse right in my neighborhood. I love the bohemian feel and how the fireplace just pops.

  3. I'm not a fan of tons of pillows, maybe 4-MAX, but I do love to make -up my bed. During the week I just use a few blankets but make the bed before I leave. On the weekends, I dress it up a little. I done up bed makes a room, I think :)

  4. Honestly, my bed very rarely gets made Monday - Thursday! I have an Asian style tatami mat bed with contemporary linens and a simple duvet. It's low to the ground and very 'zen' like. I love it!

  5. Minimal and modern, baby! I don't want to look at anything when I get horizontal. I want calm. I crave decompression. I have this great duvet cover that's off-off-white. I've bleached it and washed it into oblivion. It's the best part of the end of my day. Cheers! xoxo

  6. I think my bed style has changed...

  7. I would have to say my bed is a combination of the first style and the last style. I love my white tufted headboard, pillow top mattress, my nice sheets and fluffy pillows but until it cools down a little, it is not as cozy as I wish it would be!

  8. My bed is a bad reflection of my style right now cause it's not exactly how I want it to be. I'm definitely a hotel-chic in taste, but simpler in execution. And my bedframe feels more like urban sophisticate... I'm all over the place.

Ryan makes the bed, I don't unless I've just washed sheets and then I go the whole way and use linen spray.

  9. I love the girly glamour bed! Mine is very simple -- neutral bedding with a few large pillows, and a contrasting throw. I literally make up my bed when I get out of it each morning! Don't know how that got started because I never made my bed up as a little girl!

  10. I really should start paying more attention to my bed and how it looks. The BF and I used to have a rule that whoever got out last had to make it,well that went out the window when the BF is last out of bed everyday. So, the bed NEVER gets made, and I really mean never. The only time it has been made is when I took pictures for my blog or my friends came over to see my place for the first time. Other than that, its pure mess :)

  11. Oh my goodness- that third picture is amaaaaazing. I love the room in general, so beautiful! I am not sure what my style is. I'm not good with making my bed, need tons of comfy pillows of all sizes, lots of comforters and a comfy mattress. But, I am boring and stay away from patterns and the like. I'm all about solid colors. :)

  13. You're so right that a bed can say a lot about you. Mine looks pretty much like the first one except the headboard is also upholstered in white. I've tried to change up the bedding but I just can't give up the white!

  14. That green bed is amazing! I love it with the animal-print pillows and white linens. Great look!

I love mixing prints and colors on my bed...lots of layers and pillows. And I love making it! It's like dressing the room each day!

  15. I love the second pic! I think I'm i fusion of all of those styles :)

  16. I think my bed would be under hotel chic.

Normal quality bedding and then custom made black and yellow cushions to give it abit of a pop.

As for making it...I always make it in the morning except for the weekend!

  17. I love the top one.

A few years back, I was doing a "mom" survey to see who made their beds (of my friends and my kids friends) and one boy said, I make it right before I go to sleep. I just loved that honesty!

I cannot leave the house til the beds are made!

  18. I love the first image. It would be so fun to use such a dark color on the walls to reference the midnight sky! I'm still trying to figure out my bedroom style (although I recently posted about getting a four post bed), but one thing is for sure...white sheets, linens, and duvets for me!

I also can't leave the house without making my bed :)

    *Loving your blog!

  19. I am like you ~ I have to make my bed in the morning!

I love the bohemian Anthropologie look - I have half a dozen pillows on my bed and they are all different.

    Really fun post and pics!

  20. My bedroom style is really contemporary. I have a dark wood sleigh bed with matching dresser and nightstands and my walls are taupe with a steel blue accent wall. I have a bay window with brown sheer curtains and pillows under the window and a beautiful blue and brown rug in front of the bed. It was basically whatever my husband let me have :)

  21. my mom was (and still is) very serious about bed-making. we couldn't leave for school if beds were unmade! she said it made the whole house look neater. I think she's right -- I still make it every day.

  22. I'm just like you, I can't leave my house without my bed being made. I'm definitely hotel chic. Ok, I must go back to painting. See you tomorrow.

  23. Our bedroom is hotel-chic, and the hubby is NOT a fan of throw-pillows. :(. I'd love to make the bed every morning, but he's still in it when I leave for work and hates making the bed!

Lovely inspiration pics, BTW. Love the one with the brick wall - reminds me of our old apartment.

  24. I'd say my favorite is the Pink Street Design. My current bed is not my ideal bed though. I have a white matelasse quilt but I wish I had more fun pillows and color. I don't love hotel bedding--I like to have a little quirkiness or fun/color infused in my bedding. Also, I want a headboard. AND I never leave my apt without making the bed. NEVER.

  25. My style changes! I go from a TON of pillows to 2! I switch it up a lot! I do always love all white bedding though...love the pics you posted!-carlee

  26. Since we're talking beds... Do you know of an easy, DIY for a headboard? I just want an oversized rectangular headboard for our very boring bed...

  27. Such an interesting thought. How do you dress your bed. I am going to always ask a new client this. It will give a lot of insight.

  28. I needed this post today. Thank you. We are having a major design crisis in our bedroom...a total lack of vision. You are so timely, m'dear!

  29. In theory I love the fussy, but in reality the first bed matches my style most of all. I like bohemian clutter downstairs, but prefer my bed to be plain, and white. I am branching out into pure linen soon...

  30. I love this topic ~ I recently had been pondering throw it out there as to how many of us make our beds in after rising each day? I find that many parents don't teach their children @ any age, how to make a bed. I am definitely hotel chic. Few pillows, not a lot of fuss but like our room to be elegant. Great post!

Oh...we make our bed; each & every day!

  31. Mine is probably more the last style- but without any color! :)

I'm a bed maker... just about every single day.

  32. I've now decided... my dream bedroom (someday) needs to have a brick wall I can put my bed up against. And a chandelier. That room is exquisite!!!

  33. oh totally depends on how crazy life is and my mood... sometimes i have 5 pillows and other times only 2. (right now) when things are really busy & i know i just want to fall into bed at night I do 2, and when I have more time, I add some euros and a pretty patterened pillow or 2... (I just had a huge body pillow upholstered in this great ikat for my bed- can't wait to show you!!!--- hahah PRETENDING things are abotu to slow down ;)
