Over the weekend I had the opportunity to swing into the city and visit with my sisters.
My youngest sister, Danay moved into the Upper East Side a couple of months ago so we decided to hit up the thrift stores near her.
I must say that I wasn’t that impressed. I do better shopping on LI, but there was one thing that caught my eye!
Can you believe how massive they are! Last year Foo’s were a major passion of mine. A couple of months ago the obsession started to slow down, but seeing these guys made me love them all over again.
I don’t think I could go that big, but I could stand for a little bit of Foo in my life, but for Jon (you know the man that decorates with construction paper) they are a big no, no.
Here are some of my favorite rooms that share my love for Foos:
{Ivanka’s apt via Style Court}
{Here is a much smaller pair on the vanity via Domino}
{Not only does Palmer Weiss have the perfect sized Foo’s, but how amazing is the trim on that skirted table!}
{ I know there is a lot going on in this picture, but I can still spot my Foos!}
{ Since I can’t use them in my own home I tend to use them with clients.}
So, dear readers what’s the verdict? Do we still love them or should we sending them off to our local thrift shops?
I love a little foo (or two). It reminds me of my trip to China. But a big foo, I think that is too much.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a pair myself to peep from other accents, like delightful found objects. (Hubs doesn't know yet)
The larger ones (like the ones you fond) are a little in your face, for me, and turn them from an accent to the focal piece.
I have to admit, I'm not a fan! They are kind of scary to me. Maybe if there was a teenie tiny little cute one.. sort of like in the Domino picture. I love miniature anything!
ReplyDeletePersonally...they scare me. But I guess that's why your the interior expert and I am not!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any but I don't mind the little ones. They are really cute. Especially the colorful ones. I don't really like a big one.
ReplyDeleteI still love them! :) I hope they aren't going out of style, because I have two!!
ReplyDeletekeep, but store.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan in small doses - and I got an olive green Foo from Home Goods for a steal - gotta love that place!! :)
ReplyDeleteStill loving them! I just posted about a pair, and I am still trying to find just the right spot for my foo dogs. They just look great everywhere I try them! :)
ReplyDeletehmmm, I've never really found the appeal in them, but I guess to each her own!
ReplyDeleteNO WAY mine are heading to the thrift shop! They are a classic design element - you may find them on your grandma's built-ins, and that may scare some people, but I believe they've been around long before they were deemed trendy. If you love 'em - keep 'em! I don't buy into what the designerati claims is In or Out...
ReplyDeletei too think they are a bit scary, or at least That's what I thought when I first saw them, now there are growing on me (just a tiny bit) and I would gladly add a couple of small ones, like the cute Domino ones.
ReplyDeleteIf you love 'em, GET 'EM! But I say you go at it Palmer Weiss style.

You know, I've never been a fan. They're kinda weird look. However, when I spy them in design I can appreciate them!
ReplyDeletesend them to the thrift shop...so I can find them for cheap! I like the small ones. The big guys remind me a little of the Nutcracker with those large teeth.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby HATES them and I am over them, but at one time did think they were pretty cute!
ReplyDeleteYou gave me mine, of course I love them!!
ReplyDeleteWes hates them. The tiny turquoise ones are darling, but if they are big they are a tad frightening to me!
ReplyDeleteStep away from the Foo Dogs!
ReplyDeleteThey are way over ha ha.
But stick them in the closet for a few years, and they will probably come back into fashion.
xo xo
Classic, and they work in the right space. Just not me.
ReplyDeleteI love Foo dogs! They remind me of my grandmother, who was a big fan of chinoiserie and had several sets. My mom was a fan, too, and now I have two sets in my own house (one red-orange pair I picked up thrifting and a second larger pair I got from my mom). So yeah, I guess it's a family thing for me, but it does show they have some serious staying power!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I had no idea that was what they were called! How interesting :)
ReplyDeleteMy uncle is an antique dealer.. I'm a foo dog fool! lol
ReplyDeleteI passed up a chance at buying some turquoise foos at a shop in Shanghai while I still lived there. I've regretted it ever since and I'm afraid I'm going to want them until I can find them again.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Camila! Hope you had a great holiday! I LOVE the foo dogs still! I think it's past trend for me and into enduring love...
ReplyDeleteI too am fond of the Foo. I own several pairs, small to medium though.
ReplyDeletegood ol' jonathan adler says you should always buy a foo when you see it! :)
ReplyDeletestill love but will love them more when everyone else stops!! ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Love em, check out the cute little red ones that CB2 has, great price too.
ReplyDeletemen hate anything that doesn't feed them...LOL...I like them...with a great new paint job they could fit into lots of spaces. We are doing a different more defined eclectic these days, it seems...like everything, it's personal.
ReplyDeleteSTill LOVE!! :-) dont think i'll stop i just love the pop of color they bring to the room
ReplyDeleteIf you have a Homegoods near you, I found them there! $30 and in multiple colors; white, teal, yellow, red!
