Normally when I go into people’s home I notice that their kitchen rug falls into 3 catagories.
1. Some sort of wine or grape motif:
2. Coffee motif:
3.Plump Chef motif:
I’m certain that at one point in our lives we’ve had one of the versions from above in our home, but I say we should kick those chubby chefs to the curb!
Now in most home decor magazines we normally don’t even see kitchen mats in photo shoots, but we must be practical. People enjoy having a little cushioning under their feet especially if their floors are wood or tile.
Here are a couple of stylish options that I found to fit the bill:
1. Lattice Kitchen Rug: It’s a nice neutral color, love the lattice pattern and this runner version (20” x 48”) is only $16.99
2. Acadia Maze: This pattern reminds me a lot of Java Java by China Seas. The 24” by 36” version is only $19.99
3. Geometric Rug: Love this pattern below it reminds me of Dash & Albert’s diamond pattern. This 21” x 34” version is on sale for $12. 49! I could also see this having a home by your bedside.
4.Chevron Rug: Ah what’s not to love about chevron. This 21” x 34” mat is only $12.49. I love it! I would even buy a couple and stitch them together to get a larger rug!
All of my picks are from Kohls! A store that I tend to forget about. So I’m happy I decided to take a peek there today!
This is great! Oh how I cringe when people describe their kitchen "themes". Can't the theme be...this is the stylish room in which I prepare food? Instead of...wine country...in Iowa.

So true! I'm not a fan of "themes". I didn't even have a theme for my children's rooms. Am I crazy or should your home flow from room to room? I wouldn't have a chunky monkey chef in my master bedroom or guest bath.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I'm still laughing from the first comment, but seriously Kohl's?
ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed. I love the diamond and chev.
I have just a couple of rugs on my tile floor in the mud room, but certainly not themes. I love the one from Kohls...who knew?!!
ReplyDeleteI do have the chef's theme in my kitchen! It makes me smile every time I see one of those cute chefs smiling down at me. I don't go over board but I do have a chef's rug. I'll have to do a post on my kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI love the rugs, and I love Kohls. Thanks for letting me know these are there!
ReplyDeleteI am really happy to hear Kohl's has cute stuff like that - I've never been there! I am always struggling with finding a stylish rug for the kitchen and never love anything (except a leopard print runner which got moved to the laundry room and looks so good in there I can't take it out again). A stop at Kohl's is in my near future!! Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteYou just SAVED the day! I need new rugs for my kitchen/entry SO bad and I was having a terrible time finding some. Thank a million for these tips... hopefully they are machine washable! :)
ReplyDeleteLove these rugs! Thanks for sharing. I wrote a blog post today and it reminded me of your style. Stop by sometime to check it out:

The last one in particular is totally adorable. I bought a rug from Menards that I use in front of the sink - crazy right? But it looks so great I would keep it in a photoshoot :) Marija
ReplyDeleteawesome post! something i hadn't really given much thought to before but everything you said is so true! love efedesigns' comment too :)
ReplyDeleteawesome finds!! love the designs and prices even better!!

awesome!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to have a black background Persian (fake, of course)runner in my kitchen, but got so tired of vacuuming it, I finally rolled it up and put it in the garage sale pile. Now I just have the ceramic tile. Boring maybe - easy to clean - definitely :).
ReplyDeleteWow! those are really reasonably priced (and cute, too!)
ReplyDeleteI can honestly (and proudly) say I've never had a "motif" rug underfoot, but you've still given me a good reason to take a look-see at Kohls - Thanks a mucho!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post; I'm in the market for a kitchen rug :) Will be headed to Kohl's this weekend; especially like that chevron one.
ReplyDeleteAnd, congrats on posting the three most hideous examples of themed kitchen rugs :)
I'm guilty of the chef decor..ughh. I can't believe you found so many chic alternatives that are way AFFORDABLE!
ReplyDeleteI just realized I don't have a rug in my kitchen....
ReplyDeleteChic and cheap is right! The chevron is my fav and I'll have to take a peek. By the way, love your designer series you do... it's fun to see how others in our field carry out their day. I'd love for you to check out my new blog venture at www.connellinteriors.blogspot.com!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit at first glance, I was getting scared of this post. Gotta love overweight chefs :) The rugs you picked were super cute! I tend to go through kitchen rugs quickly -- must be a messy cook -- so the price is definitely right for me. May have to trek down to Kohl's this weekend ...
ReplyDeleteNever in my whole life can I remember having a kitchen rug. Is that weird?
ReplyDeleteJust one more thing I HAVE to have.
Wow, who knew! Love the "china seas" one. I had a Kohl's credit from returning a baby gift, and I just handed it to the person in line behind me because there was nothing there I wanted. Now I wish I had it!
ReplyDeleteKohl's as your source was a pleasant surprise. I've purchased several walkoff mats from Target (the most inobtrusive I could find) and put them together with duct tape on the back. It's held all winter, but would be easy to remove.
ReplyDeleteI love the one from Kohls...who knew?!!
