Hello Loves,
This weekend I decided to take my lemons (canceled flight to DC) and make lemonade (shopping trip to Manhattan)!
So I ventured out to the city in the slush and snow and met up with my sisters and a couple friends to visit Pearl River.
One of my favorite parts of the city is Soho. With all the shops, restaurants and galleries it’s a little slice of heaven. Nestled among all the shops on Broadway and across the street from Top Shop is Pearl River.
Pearl River is a Chinese American department store. The store features, cookies & teas, dishes, shoes, clothing, stationary, curtains, etc. The list really goes on and on. It’s a little bit of everything.
Here is a glimpse of their clothing section. They had so many beautiful scarves on display it was hard to pick a favorite!
I grew up in the Financial district so trips into Chinatown were very frequent. I always remember having a pair of Chinese slippers around the house. I had my pick of any color under the sun here.
I love stationary so of course I made a bee line for this massive display in the middle of the store filled with office supplies. I loves those stacks of notebooks. They would be so usefully for client meetings.
The house ware section really caught my eye. I loved all of the beautiful patterns on the dishes.
They had rows and rows of choices with massive assortments within each pattern.
I loved all these bowls and small rectangular dishes. I know they are meant for food, but I kept envisioning them on console tables so that you would have a pretty place to drop your keys by your door.
I loved these even smaller dishes to place on a vanity or a night stand. I would use them to hold my jewelry that I wore that day. Plus they range from $2-$3 so it’s an inexpensive impulse purchase that would be useful.
I loved the flowers in these:
Making our way downstairs we were met with many vase/ginger jar choices. I loved seeing all the blue/white combos.
My lovely sister decided to model this stylish white ginger jar that was only $13!
She also decided to display this mask they had along with them. I told her it really helped show her natural beauty! :)
Looking above we were met with a parade of paper lanterns. I’m actually using a bunch in orange/pink/white in a clients bedroom. Paper lanterns are great for people on a budget. They help add a touch of whimsy and a pop of color for a couple of dollars!
One of the last things to catch my eyes were all the bright colors and beautiful patterns in their window treatment section!
I know that not everyone has access to visit this store in person, but don’t you worry they have an online shop so you can get your thrills virtually!
Our shopping day continued in Soho with a pop into Aero Studios ( I got camera shy here…sorry about that) and lunch at Bread and a trip back home.
Since the job of a decorator is never 9-5 or Mon-Fri this Sunday was spent at my favorite paint shops looking up paint swatches for an e-decorating client.
I always find paint to be the hardest thing to come up with for a client far away. You are not there to see the natural sunlight hit the room so it’s hard to gauge how a color on a piece of paper will look in the room. I’ll keep you all posted on my recommendations!
What did everyone else do this weekend? Any home projects get done?
xoxo,
Camila
Camilla what a great alternative to DC, time shopping with your sisters and lunch. Pearl River looks like a place to while away some time in fun. Hope your week is now off to a great start. x deb
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so colorful and fun!
ReplyDeletei love that store. its like disneyworld to me.
ReplyDeleteWow! The price is right. I love those flower bowls.
ReplyDeletemoved furniture around, painted the bedroom dressers for the 4th time (that's about 1 bedroom makeover every 2 years of our marriage). Am anxiously awaiting the newly ordered bedding to get here. Next up, frame the prints that have been thumbtacked up to the wall. Having a DIY frenzy over here :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you had! I will have to check it out when I am in NYC in April!
ReplyDeleteHey, Camilla, I was at Pearl River on Saturday, too! I wonder if we passed each other unknowingly! We had a really fun day in Chinatown (and Battery Park area, and eating dinner :))!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from NY myself. Pearl River is an awesome resource for unique items! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI work right near Chinatown in Boston and there are a bunch of little stores all over just like this one. I always love going in and seeing all the pretty dishes they have- the colors and patterns are always so lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great store!
ReplyDeleteWe finally bought a new house so that was a big project this weekend that got taken care of. Plus there was the hockey game and my brother's birthday. Pretty busy.
What a fun store! We tackled installing recessed lighting in the kitchen this weekend. I'm looking for a pendant light to hang in front of our window/above the sink now. Pop on over to our blog, if you have any suggestions!
ReplyDeleteThat window treat ments you've shown, 6th from the left looks like the flower print made famous in Domino.... Am I wrong?

Wow- it looks like you had so much fun. I had a fun shopping trip too, to a crazy big fabric store.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a great weekend! I am jealous! I would love to go to that amazing store.

Well at least you had a fun weekend even though your trip was cancelled, thats what matters, love all these dishes and bowls, great patterns and so joyful. Will check their website, thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun! Too bad I don't live close enough to take advantage of the super buys on blue and white.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool store! Those little plates and bowls are so pretty and versatile. Thanks for sharing pics of your shopping day!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a jewelry giveaway today - stop by to enter!

I love all of pearl river's party supplies in particular -- the votice candle holders, the paper lanterns. Great style for very little moola!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I finally got around to refinishing a credenza I got off eBay in January. I'm pretty stoked about the results, too!
I ridiculously love that store! I was there last time I was in the city in January. I couldn't get enough of all the tote bags & bought a pair of the little slippers for my niece for her birthday. I use those cute little $2-$3 bowls for feeding my kitties. And the rest of the dishes... I have a problem- I am addicted to dishes. Need I say more? Oddly enough, my favorite ones from that store are the melamine ones with the red and yellow pattern.
ReplyDeleteOh I envy you all those beautiful goodies at great prices! I'll have to check out our little China town and see if I can find anything colorful. I did rehab another bargain mirror for the dining room - hoping to hang it tonight :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay checking out the on-line shop but still really really really want to go there in person! (I loved your personal pics!) Marija
ReplyDeleteAnother life time ago, I worked downtown (by the S.I.Ferry) I loved taking the trip up to Pearl River, what a great post! (and I totally get the camera shy thing @ Aero!).
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the curtains. I am looking for affordable and unique looking curtains for my bedroom. I always have the hardest time finding curtains. I miss NY so much! Gonna have to check out chinatown in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteI think my brain would explode (and so would my wallet!)
ReplyDeleteWill have to check out the website.
VERY uneventful weekend down here, but, considering my condition, guess that's a good thing! ;)
Ok losing out on a trip to DC but going to Manhattan, awww you poor thing! (: That store is amazing, I love the ginger jar and the bowls with the flowers in it! I'm so glad you mentioned about paint colors and e-design, I have the same problem, I sometimes get scared doing it when I'm at a clients house, because the paint color is going to look different in the evening etc. Paint colors are probably the hardest thing for me to do in our profession. Maybe you could do a post on it?!
ReplyDeleteomg im so excited they have an online shop!!
ReplyDeleteI love that store. I really want a set of cute sushi plates.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place for inspiration! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that store, how fun to go exploring with your sis ! I love her choice of vase by the way !
ReplyDeleteThis place is magical! Those flower bowls are to die for, great finds!!!
ReplyDeleteLove Pearl River and Ginger Jars! I just found one on clearance somewhere last week for $7!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a great find! Looks like a gorgeous and fun store. And a $13 ginger jar? Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteWe started gutting our master bathroom-yikes! Good progress so far! Love Pearl River, I always find great stuff!
ReplyDeleteI have been OBSESSED with Pearl River Mart since I was 13. Every time I get to NYC and I go to the store I get too excited and overwhelmed and I don't even buy anything. :(
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Pearl River! I haven't been there in years, but I think it's time for a visit. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could visit that store....I've heard so much about it!
ReplyDeleteThey have a great selection of vases too... :))))
