Updates….

Hi Everyone,

Ok I promise I will have an interior design related post this afternoon, but I had lots of little bullet points to share with you all so I figure it was best to get it out in a massive post.

- Yesterday was my birthday! This old lady turned 29. I tend to be a complete birthday brat. I don’t normally ask for anything, but on my birthday I want the surprises, cake, presents, etc. The morning got off to a rocky start when I wasn’t too thrilled with Jon’s gift presentation. I actually spent the majority of the day crying about it and figuring out how to trade him in for a newer model :) Thanks to the help of Jules & Linds I decided to give him another shot.

- Of course I continued to fight when Jon got home from work, but since we were heading out to dinner in the city I finally called a truce after an hour long car ride in silence. I told him he can have a do over on my birthday. So let’s see what he comes up with! *Please tell me I’m not the only one that acts like a 5 year old on their birthday.

- We went to eat at Palma's in the Village and it was delish.

PALMARESTAURANT

- Instead of birthday cake my family surprised me with a birthday cupcake from my favorite place….CRUMBS!

crumbs cupcake See that last cupcake? That’s the size they got for me. It was bigger than my head.

- Presents! Who doesn’t love presents? This year they decided to get me 29 presents! Woo hoo! I like this tradition and next year I’ll expect 30!

Here are 28 of the gifts. Lots of fun treats and favorites of mine.

Then gift 29 was wrapped in a box, within a box, within a box, within a box. My mom thought she was very clever.

After peeling off all the layers I was met with this:

ipad Can you believe it? They got me an ipad! Amazing. I’m still to scared to even take it out  of the box!

Many thanks and kisses for my family! They did a great job this year. I totally don’t deserve it!

- Just found out my DIY Oomph look-alike tables are on Casa Sugar!

- Plus Moo made his debut on Shelter Pop!

- I’m going on a family vacation. We leave this Friday (14th) on an 8 am flight to visit my grandma, see the sites and attend a wedding in….

colombia

We will be hitting the capital, going to the mountains and having some fun in the sun as well. During my time away I have a jam packed schedule of guest bloggers so all should run smoothly while I’m gone. I’ll be back on the 24th!

-Website design is almost finished. Ah famous last words. It’s taken forever and I’ve gone through even more web designers, but it looks like it is almost there. So that’s exciting!

- The blog is also getting a major overhaul. I finally decided what I want to do and it’s going to have lots of bells and whistles for you guys to make things make easier for you. It’s also going to be moving to wordpress and since this high-heel foot is already in the door the name will be changing to Effortless Style. Ah a tear… I’m sad about losing the name, but after lots of consults with people it seems to be the best way to go.

Whew if you got through all that you deserve a cookie!

Thank you all for being such faithful readers. This past year of mine has been a blast due to all of you. I can’t wait to share with you all the fun stuff I have planned for the blog.

  1. Honestly, it sounds like you had a pretty great birthday and you should be worried that John trades you in for a 29 year old who can act her age isn't a dreadful spoiled brat.

  2. K,

I totally admitted to being a birthday brat. I apologized for being a brat and he apologized for no birthday card, gift wrap and actual gift so all was forgiven.

  3. HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY! Congrats on all of the changes you're making. Big steps. Have a fabulous time on your trip!

  4. Happy Birthday! Isn't that why they wrote the song "it's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to?" I always have high expectations. That's why sometimes I cook my own birthday dinner and tell my Husband exactly what to get me.

  5. I've done that before, one year my boyfriend (now hubby) got me a keyboard for my birthday. I never asked for it or anything, he just got it. It was one of the worst presents ever and thankfully he made up for it. Looks like you got a lot of great stuff, including a Crumb's cupcake!

  6. I act like a brat sometimes on my birthday also. I build something up in my head and if it doesn't happen that way I get upset. I few hours later I get over it. Its just a special day and you want it to be perfect. My birthday is the 14th of May, lets hope I'm not a brat at he end of the week. :) Your not alone.

  7. Happy Birthday!

I don't think you were a brat...you just set yourself up with high expectations. I think birthdays are hard for people to get right sometimes because different people have different expectations, especially around milestone birthdays. I'm lucky...I don't expect much hoopla and my boyfriend is a terrific planner who really delights in selecting and giving gifts. I'm always overwhelmed.

  8. Oh my! What's up with that first comment?! I can imagine what would have been said of me if people knew how I acted when I realized I wasn't getting a 25th birthday party! My attitude got me a fabulous 26th b-day party;-)
    So jealous of the iPad!
    Happy Belated birthday hun!

  11. Happy Birthday and Have an amazing time in Colombia! I spent two weeks in Medellin and have since been trying to figure out a way to go back!

  12. First off - happy belated birthday! I think most people have a touch of the birthday brat deep within. I kind of went through the same thing last Sept with B's gift presentation (add in the fact that my 2 best friends forgot my birthday) - I was feeling pretty low but got over it! Glad things turned out well in the end! :)

  14. I act like a 5 year old to my husband 5 days a week. Adult sized tantrums aren't cute, so I'm working extra hard to get that out of my 2 year old now.

But you know you have a good man when he lets you be a brat and he still comes home at night. LOL.

  15. You are so funny. I've honestly reacted similarly after giving my husband HUGE, FOOLPROOF HINTS and he totally forgets about it. I'm glad your BD was great!

  17. i'm so excited for the new website and blog redesign! those are such big steps and i can't wait to follow all your progress. i'm happy your family and husband salvaged your birthday... 29 gifts plus one plus-size cupcake sounds like a lovely day indeed!

  18. I guess you don't have kids. When you do you stop thinking you're the center of the universe because you think they are! It helps keep birthdays and the lack of the perfect gift or even lack of gifts in perspective. Now you know you need to tell him what you want him to do b/c, as I have FINALLY realized, men REALLY can't read our minds!!

  19. I really didn't mean to stir up so much trouble with this post.

Yes I was a brat. I fully said I was. Am I normally. Not at all. I always put others before myself and I'm all around a really nice person.

So I had a freak out and was upset yesterday. I'm really honest on the blog so I was just up front, because I figured many ladies had been in the same situation as me. At the end of the evening we were all laughing about it.

No I don't have kids yet so I'm sure things will change then, but at the moment it's just the two of us.

  20. How cool we have the same birthday! Mine was great, sounds like yours was too!

  21. Happy birthday! Mine is on Saturday and I'm trying hard to not get my hopes up to high, because I've done the bratty birthday girl thing before and it's just no fun, is it? Ryan used to always do "IOU" gifts and say I got to pick it out. I finally cut him off after like four holidays like that - half the fun is opening something on your birthday! So he's been doing better :) He got my gift yesterday and I've been pestering him about what it is. You're not the only twenty-something with single-digit tendencies. Hugs. Glad it got better and looks like a fabulous cupcake! Wow!

  22. Happy birthday a day late! I can't wait to see the new blog design!! And the i-pad was such a wonderful gift. I hope you have a wonderful trip too - you have a lot going on!!

  23. I threw a fit on my birthday this year because my boyfriend didn't meet my expectations -- I'll admit --they're high! But a new external hard drive wasn't the romantic present I was expecting!

But it's your birthday, so you get a chance to act like a brat for the day -- I'm sure he'll make it up to!

  24. Happy Happy birthday again!!! And no, you are not the only birthday brat- I act the same way.

UMM, an ipad- what an awesome present to add to your other amazing presents!! I think you are missing one present on that list though :)

  25. Happy Birthday! I'm jealous of the ipad, too!

My birthday last year sounds a bit like yours. It was a Saturday and around 4pm (after spending all day working on the house, I might add) I still hadn't received a "Happy Birthday", a card or present from my husband. A meltdown ensued. He was under the impression that we'd work all day on the house and then celebrate that evening. He didn't understand that even though we were working on the house, I still wanted him to acknowledge my birthday (and not wait until the evening to do so). Sigh.

I'm glad your birthday celebrations got back on track and start now telling your husband what you need next year for the BIG one! Seriously, I planned my own 30th because otherwise it would have been just another day. haha!

  26. what a fun birthday. I totally do the same thing so no need to worry. John sounds like a keeper for sure! Enjoy the ipad and let me know if it's worth buying. my bday is coming up and I've been debating whether or not i want one!

  27. It's all about the card! We care about a nice hallmark card more than we care about the present!

    When will men realize that?!

  28. Happy birthday girlie!!! And I LOVE that cupcake!!! I want one tooo!!!

Looks like you had a wonderful day :) And 29 gifts??? WOW!!

  30. I don't even know what to comment on first about your post, because there were so many good things! I can't wait to see the new website and blog and pictures from Colombia. Plus, let us know how you like your iPad, I'm so curious about them.

And I think we are ALL allowed one day of being a brat, especially on our birthday. And all your readers really appreciate your honesty in sharing your life with us!

    ReplyDelete
  31. wow you're quite a treat on your birthday but I can totally identify with that! That was me last year (and the year before). I hope I can act my age (or maybe 5 years younger!) this year.

    Happy Birthday!!!

  32. Happy belated, honey!!! Please know that my hubs is renown for getting or not getting birthday gifts to my dissappointment!!!! Its now our running joke, but I can totally relate!!
So excited for all your upcoming things...especially your blog makeover and your trip...awesome, can't wait to see it all!

  33. I wouldn't apologize dear, we all have it in us, and so do the men, it just comes out differently. That is why the recipe for a happy marriage is 2 cheerful givers and 2 cheerful FORGIVERS. K needs to take it down a notch.
PS Love the scarf you got!

  35. Oh now I am jealous. I'm a lurker who rarely comments but do enjoy Colombia. My whole family lives there and I haven't been back for five years! Bogota is super European now. I hope it's fabulous.

  36. After being with my husband for 19 years (married 14) I have just started giving him a list of what I want. It took me that long! On Christmas, I gave him a list of design coffee table books I wanted. This month is Mother's day and my birthday. I told him I wanted an ipad for one gift, and a flip video camera for the other gift. Got the ipad!

    ReplyDelete
  37. An ipad?! They must really love you! Happy Belated Birthday!

  38. Happy belated birthday! That cupcake looks PHENOMENAL, I've heard great things about Crumbs! Have fun with your iPad. :)

  39. Oh, brother.

Cam, you deserve 12 iPads for everything you do for people without expecting a single thing in return. Thanks for keeping it real.

  41. I too was a little bummed with no actual "present" on my birthday, although he did organize a BIG bowling night with all of my friends (it was the BIG 3-0 this year yikes!) So he made up in a BIG way, I got a new car about a week later...Princess or not, we're lucky to have great guys who put up with us the other 364 days of the year when we treasure them! Happy Birthday and congrats on all the changes! Can't wait to keep up,a nd let me know if you ever get down to VA! *Amy

  43. Camila! Happy birthday sweets, love all the sweet surprises. Hope you had a great time celebrating. We are fellow Taurus'!!

I remember the first birthday I celebrated with my bf, and how he went on and on and on about "no celebrating" and then? The morning of his bday, that brat :P was all "it's my bday, it's my bday, let's celebrate!!" ahhh, and then I learned (he likes to act like it's no big deal, and then make a big deal!!). Your man just needs some learning too ;)

Big wishes for a fabulous year!
