Last night inspiration hit me around dinner time. I was making one our favorite meals…CHILI, which meant I had a bunch of cans left over after making it.
Instead of tossing them right into the recycling bin I knew that in a couple of mins with supplies from my craft closet I could make them into chic home accessories.
First step is of course to strip them clean!
I came up with three different looks.
Look #1: Natural Elements
SUPPLIES:
- clean can
-scissors
-self adhesive cork (this was in my closet, but you can pick up a roll at Target)
With two simple cuts and a peel of backing on the cork you have this:
A chic vase for your office.
Or it can hold some office supplies:
* In order to actually use the cork with push pins you’ll need to wrap the cork around about 2-3 times to make it thick enough for the push pins.
Look #2: Animal instincts
SUPPLIES:
-clean can
-scissors
-left over ribbon
-hot glue gun
- 1 sheet of felt (This was in my closet, but it was around .89 cents at Michaels)
With two simple cuts, a bit of glue to hold in place careful placement of ribbon to cover the seams you have this:
A chic vase for your guest bathroom:
Or a new place to store your toothbrushes:
Look #3: Girly Glam
SUPPLIES:
-clean can
-scissors
-roll of velvet ribbon
-glue gun
This one takes the longest, because instead of just continually wrapping ribbon around the can I made individual pieces and glued each end onto the can.
A chic vase for your living room:
Or a new candle holder: I had a bunch of large tea lights left over from the little backyard pick me up (pictured in front of holder). So we stacked them instead the can to get some height and voila new soft light source!
It literally took me 30 mins to get all three of them done. I’m so happy with how they turned. Now I have some chic new home accessories for pennies!
The possibilities are endless. What would you use them for?
Very Chic! Love the cork one-great idea.
ReplyDeletegood job i love each one. especially the leopard one. i think i will give it a try. thanks for the idea.

Great idea, I'm definitely doing this asap. I could use a few more containers for odds and ends.
ReplyDeleteOh no you didn't!! Love them all, but I'm partial to the cork. I may even try modpodging them with coordinating fabric strips or scrapbook paper. They would make great plastic cutlery holders for outdoor dining. Great idea! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI liked how you found a way to make the cans "green" and at the same pretty!
ReplyDeleteI was a little skeptical at the beginning of this - but I love it - especially the cork!
ReplyDeleteCamilla! did I email you? I cannot remember. I need your help.
ReplyDeleteLove your crafts! you know I love crafts.
Very cute! I've seen some used as wedding table centerpieces with flowers in them and a simple ribbon or wrapped like you showed in your pics... such a great idea, also cost friendly too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great, easy idea! Love the cork one. Thanks!
