The one that got away…again…

For those of you that have been reading this blog for awhile you know I have a horrible problem of second guessing items at thrift stores, obsessing about them, sleeping on it, deciding I really want it and returning the next day to only see an empty space where my dream item use to live.

Well I finally decided I need to stick to my guns and trust my instincts. I realized if I didn’t end up using it a client could eventually or I could just sell it.

Yesterday while sourcing items for clients at my favorite thrift store I spotted this beauty:

dreamorangeottoman

Swoon a large, velvet, tufted, ORANGE ottoman! Be still my heart it was meant to go in my living room. I made a beeline towards it ready to haul it over to the register.

Yeah well it looks like someone else beat me to the punch.  As I walked over I saw the big red sold tag on it. A mover from the shop told me it had literally been bought 3 minutes ago!!!!!!!

So sad! I went and sat on it for a while just to pretend what it be like to have it in my house and secretly wished that the new owner would come back, see me sitting on it and decide that it was meant to be mine and sell it to me.

Didn’t happen. I checked out the whole thing in the hopes of finding a rip or stain that would make me feel better that it got away from me. Nothing only a tag from Kravet and a $68 price tag!!!!!!!!!

Seriously considering getting a part time job at the shop so I can get first dibs on everything.

:) Jon is already building me a shed out back to feed my vintage furniture addiction.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?? That is crazy bad luck!! I don't want to rub it in, but that is the coolest thing I've ever seen a second hand store. At least you know what's potentially out there and that you can visit that store multiple times a week!

That is one good looking orange ottoman -- just think -- in the future, if you see something you can't imagine living without and it's within the budget, don't second guess yourself! Trust your gut.

Gosh I HEART orange. That was a beautiful find. But you're heading in the right direction by going with your gut and trying to purchase right away instead of leaving it (literally) to someone else.

That's going to pay off for you soon!

Aw bummer! That is an amazing find. I bet you'll end up getting something that works even better in the end though, but that still stinks!

Thanks for all understanding and feeling the pain with me.

I was so sad yesterday after I left the store. I missed getting it by 3 mins!!!

Craziness. Jon on the other hand thinks his wife is crazy for being so sad.

Already drafting invitations for the memorial service I'm going to have in it's honor.

$68 DOLLARS??? That thing is gorgeous! Darn that other buyer, it should have been yours. Or mine. Or yours. :)

Oh no! It is beautiful but I'm certain you could recreate the look since you're so crafty. I would love to hear a few of your favorite thrift stores in the tristate area. You always have the best resources! I can't wait to see your vintage furniture shed — what a dream!

totally feeling your pain!! kravet & $68 don't usually go together in the same sentence. this must mean that there is something even better in store for you in future shopping!

Omgosh, I am crying for you that was an amazing deal. Those things are so hard to let go of. I once did not buy this very old wood box because I could not seem to open it, marked $1.99. As I went to the register another lady was buying it. I told her I could not get it open so I passed it up. She opened it for me and it turned out to be a verrrrrry old smoking box completely lined in nickel!! I died. She was an antique dealer and knew she had just bought a treasure. It took me weeks to let go of that loss, $1.99 and a little more determination to open it and it would be mine. I guess I really still have not let go of it, lol, Kathysue

That ottoman is FANTASTIC. So bummed you missed out... :(

And yes, maybe a parttime job is in order (or maybe just befriend someone on the inside so you can get a head's up on items before they hit the floor)!

Oh bummer! I had that happen to me once over a mirror at a thrift store. I followed the women who had it in her cart and asked her if she would take a few dollars more for it. I think she thought I was crazy so she gave it to me.

this makes me so sad for you - I know this feeling all too well. I left a gorgeous navy blue wing back chair with nail head trim at homegoods. I returned to buy it and it was gone - enter heartache. sorry about your ottoman - we all have those moments.
