Pastel Palette’s

Here in NY we got to embrace the start of spring with a wonderfully warm and sunny weekend. Now of course we are back to gray clouds and raindrops, but for two glorious days I was living in the land of  dresses without tights and sunglasses.

With spring comes the re-immersion of pastel colors. From stuffed bunnies to Easter basket treats all around I begin to  see  light shades of pink, purple, blue and green.

While pastels in design conjure up images of bad decisions from the 80’s if done correctly it can look very current and chic.

uglyhousephoto { Oh pastels gone bad!}

I think the key to using pastels is to make sure to balance it with some darker shades.

This image from House Beautiful sums it up perfectly:

During the Architictual Digest Home Show one of my favorite displays was from Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams.

How chic is that tufted sofa! I’ll take 2 please.

This chair had to be my favorite thing in the display. Loved the buttery leather, loved the shade of blue/green it came in and to make it even more perfect it had nail head trim!

The bedding display was a bit more neutral, but I still loved it. Very understated yet stylish. It totally looked like something people would actually use in their homes not just something from a magazine spread.

There whole set-up immediately reminded me of these:

Don’t you think they would work framed up in a gallery wall in any of the rooms from above?

How do you feel about pastel shades in home decor? Do we love it or not so much?

Added more pictures to my DIFFA event recap. Now you can see what I wore and check me out at the table! Go have a peek!

I love pastels, but I agree that I love to see them in combination with a bold, darker color. I love those framed pictures!

Usually I like a plain base color and then bright accent pieces but this pastel look is pretty nice!

I'm definitely a fan of pastels.. if they're done right. Perfect example being Pheobe Howard rooms. Gorgeous, but they can get almost boring after you've seen so many.

Nice selection of well-done rooms. Pastels can definitely go very wrong, very easily, but you've shown that they can also be really beautiful.

love them as long as you add in some rich browns or bolder, darker colors to deepen the room.

I love spring time colors in my home with a balance act done with touches of black and white. In fact I did a post today on what I like and what I don't like. The 80s
era was so bad in design and in fashion, that first picture made me twitch!! Good examples on this post and I am dying for those egg prints, Love them!! Happy Tuesday,Kathysue

It is amazing how the same colors can be redone in such a good way... That first image reminds me of our old beach house when I was in middle and high school. Niceeeee! Miami Vice what?

You must admit, it's a challenge to show 80s mauve done right... That first pic brings back some bad memories.
