100% off store

Isn't it's every girls dream to arrive at their favorite store and see massive signs that say 100% off today. Ah imagine the madness that would ensue.

I think one of the main reasons that I love going to the library is that I get to browse around rows and rows of amazing books and then take them home for free, use it and then return it when I'm done. Amazing.

Recently one of my readers (Thanks Emily!) gave me the heads up that there is a new shop in Brooklyn where everything is free!

The store is actually a tent, but for free a girl can't be picky:

People can drop off items they no longer want and anyone can go in and pick out what they like.

Hmmm I'm intrigued. Anyone seen it/gone to it?

More info about it here.

I remember watching a documentary about the 1960's in San Francisco. The utopian concept of a "Free" store was in place then and there. I wonder why that never worked for the long haul?

hmm. it's a bit too far for me to go by myself. there's an excellent vintage warehouse in williamsburg though - with reasonable prices! you should check it out next time you're near brooklyn. xo

I think its similar to The Free Store that pops up here and there around Chicago. I picked up my kitchen table and 6 chairs there. I'm looking forward to the next time they set up.

When I get rid of something that still has life it but is no longer needed in our house, I simple put it out by the curb, it's usually gone by the morning. So you could say I have a Pop Up Free Shop in front of my house;)

Great way to keep things out of the landfills.

Cheers!

I hope you score some fun stuff when you go!
I don't know of anything like this in my area (San Diego) ... I just troll CraigsList when I feel the urge to shop on the free side of cheap.

D.C. has a free store every once in a while, too. It's pretty hit-or-miss and obviously not a good place to go if you're looking for a specific piece, but it's a great concept!
