Do we still love it? : Foo Dogs

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to swing into the city and visit with my sisters.

My youngest sister, Danay moved into the Upper East Side a couple of months ago so we decided to hit up the thrift stores near her.

I must say that I wasn’t that impressed. I do better shopping on LI, but there was one thing that caught my eye!

Can you believe how massive they are! Last year Foo’s were a major passion of mine. A couple of months ago the obsession started to slow down, but seeing these guys made me love them all over again.

I don’t think I could go that big, but I could stand for a little bit of Foo in my life, but for Jon (you know the man that decorates with construction paper) they are a big no, no.

Here are some of my favorite rooms that share my love for Foos:

{Here is a much smaller pair on the vanity via Domino}

{Not only does Palmer Weiss have the perfect sized Foo’s, but how amazing is the trim on that skirted table!}

{ I know there is a lot going on in this picture, but I can still spot my Foos!}

{ Since I can’t use them in my own home I tend to use them with clients.}

So, dear readers what’s the verdict? Do we still love them or should we sending them off to our local thrift shops?

I love a little foo (or two). It reminds me of my trip to China. But a big foo, I think that is too much.

I am looking for a pair myself to peep from other accents, like delightful found objects. (Hubs doesn't know yet)

The larger ones (like the ones you fond) are a little in your face, for me, and turn them from an accent to the focal piece.

I have to admit, I'm not a fan! They are kind of scary to me. Maybe if there was a teenie tiny little cute one.. sort of like in the Domino picture. I love miniature anything!

I don't have any but I don't mind the little ones. They are really cute. Especially the colorful ones. I don't really like a big one.

Still loving them! I just posted about a pair, and I am still trying to find just the right spot for my foo dogs. They just look great everywhere I try them! :)

NO WAY mine are heading to the thrift shop! They are a classic design element - you may find them on your grandma's built-ins, and that may scare some people, but I believe they've been around long before they were deemed trendy. If you love 'em - keep 'em! I don't buy into what the designerati claims is In or Out...

i too think they are a bit scary, or at least That's what I thought when I first saw them, now there are growing on me (just a tiny bit) and I would gladly add a couple of small ones, like the cute Domino ones.

You know, I've never been a fan. They're kinda weird look. However, when I spy them in design I can appreciate them!

send them to the thrift shop...so I can find them for cheap! I like the small ones. The big guys remind me a little of the Nutcracker with those large teeth.

Wes hates them. The tiny turquoise ones are darling, but if they are big they are a tad frightening to me!

Step away from the Foo Dogs!
They are way over ha ha.
But stick them in the closet for a few years, and they will probably come back into fashion.

I love Foo dogs! They remind me of my grandmother, who was a big fan of chinoiserie and had several sets. My mom was a fan, too, and now I have two sets in my own house (one red-orange pair I picked up thrifting and a second larger pair I got from my mom). So yeah, I guess it's a family thing for me, but it does show they have some serious staying power!

I passed up a chance at buying some turquoise foos at a shop in Shanghai while I still lived there. I've regretted it ever since and I'm afraid I'm going to want them until I can find them again.

men hate anything that doesn't feed them...LOL...I like them...with a great new paint job they could fit into lots of spaces. We are doing a different more defined eclectic these days, it seems...like everything, it's personal.
